Second semester has begun and it seems that time is flying by us as we enter the New Year and work to complete the school year. I hope everyone had a great time during the school holiday break and you are ready for new adventures in this school year.
So many wonderful things are happening at Manchester Elementary School. We are fortunate to have an active volunteer program. Recently, our volunteers have been busy decorating areas of our school. We really appreciate their efforts and hard work to make Manchester bright and cheerful. Manchester was awarded a Fruit and Vegetable Grant which allows us to provide a nutritious snack to our students several days a week. Students have enjoyed this program and they look forward to trying the new fruit or vegetable sent through this program. Manchester is able to offer an after-school tutoring program through Title I and other grant programs. We are able to provide tutoring, snacks, supper and bus transportation for up to forty students two days a week.
Please remember that excessive absences and tardiness hinder success. Did you know that the most important learning of the school day occurs between 7:25 and 9:30? Students are the most alert and attentive at this time of day. Studies show that students who have perfect attendance or near-perfect attendance and are not tardy have much better grades and overall success at school than students who miss many days and are tardy. An occasional tardy or absence is not really a big problem, and often cannot be avoided. However, consistent tardiness creates not only academic problems, but does not help to prepare students for future success. One good tip for being on time for school is to plan ahead for the “little things” that may come up. People who are always on time are really people who arrive early every day. That way when something unexpected comes up, they may not be early, but they will be on time.
I look forward to working with you as we grow readers, writers, and thinkers at Manchester Elementary School. Parental involvement is so important to the success of students in school. We thank you for your support and participation so far during this school year. Please come out to visit us at Manchester Elementary School and see all of the wonderful learning opportunities that are being provided for our students.
