Nine-year-old Malachi Coffey was honored by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, for his heroism in saving the life of 65-year-old Allen Clemmons. Sheriff Anthony Dennis presented Malachi with a plaque and announced that he is the agency’s Honorary Employee of the Month. Dennis also named Malachi an Honorary Deputy. On March 10, Malachi heard Clemmons’ cries for help after a car he was working on slipped off of the jack and pinned him underneath. Malachi quickly jacked the car up; thereby saving Clemmons’ life. Clemmons suffered numerous fractures from the incident and is now rehabilitating. Malachi is Sumter’s 9-year-old Hero!
